Chzo Mythos Series

Post by Shayde on Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:59 pm

The Chzo Mythos games, created by Ben 'Yhatzee' Croshaw, are are series of adventure games that are horror themed. They contain a fairly retro aesthetic, and play like old school adventure titles. There are four games in the series, which are (in order of play): 5 Days a Stranger; 7 Days A Skeptic; Trilby's Notes; 6 Days A Sacrifice. They are available for free from http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm.

Now that that's out of the way, might as well talk about them. 5 Days a Stranger was brilliant, and pretty damn atmospheric and spooky at times, and now I'm playing 7 Days a Skeptic. I like the enclosed confines of the spaceship, and am currently up to the spacewalk to find what's blocking the communication relays and it's totally not gonna be the missing captains body. But so far, it's pretty good.

Anyone else here played them? (
Because if not you totally should)

7 Days a Skeptic was my least favorite, though the rest of the series is amazing. Trilby's Notes in particular is an interesting take on the Adventure Game genre, with it's word parser system.

Have you played through the whole series yet or just up to 5 Days a Skeptic?

Spoiler:
I flipping love Cabadath, he's like Slendy except more violent (if that's even possible). LET'S WASH THE SHIP WITH BLOOD 8D LA DA DE DA~

John Defoe needs more love too, the poor guy :,c

I need to play this series again :c I might say "Screw sleep" and stay up later than I should playing this again.

So far I've only finished 5 Days, but I've skimmed over the basic outline of things. And John DeFoe does need more love. As long as he doesn't repay it with that machete of his Razz

It's sooo much better if you don't know what's going to happen before it happens, Trilby's Notes especially. Trilby's Notes was probably the scariest for the series for me.

Poor, poor John Defoe. :c I bet he just wants a hug. Then maybe to stab you in the neck.

Spoiler:
Can you blame him though? He was stuck in a room for all his life, then nearly killed by his father (by beating him with a wooden idol of all things) after his brother shows him kindness, then once he dies is destined to haunt the house for hundreds of years, and then after Trilby stops that by finally killing Defoe, Defoe's role as the bridgekeeper brings a god of pain into our world once he's killed.
Oh, and I think he was stuck in the wooden idol with Cabadath, who I imagine was not very good company. I bet he sucks at Charades.

Spoiler:
On a semi unrelated side note, does anyone else hate the New Prince? I don't like him, he's not Cabadath.
On another unrelated side note, Chzo is like the ultimate troll. "Lol you thought I trusted you. New Prince, kill the Old Prince."

Well I finished 7 Days, and am now at the start of 'Trilby's Notes'. And honestly, it is brilliant so far.

Spoiler:
That first jump to the Alternate Hotel made me jump out of my seat, and gasp a bit. And the glimpses you catch of Cabadath. AND THAT SOUNDTRACK... it's the first thing in a long time that has actually left me scared in a game.

But yeah, it's pretty good so far.
