What are your biggest regrets concerning a plotline/character/post scheduling/overall blog?

Mine would be the entirety of my Fearblog Still Remains Within...I hated it so much, I'm retconning many of the earlier entries so Peter doesn't seem like a completely illiterate asshole.

I'm going to go ahead and say this. Thank you Cute! I think if you go back and use the "he was writing like this on purpose" excuse, it would work pretty well. Peter always seemed like he should have acted and said more clearly, and you can chalk it up to... dumbing it down out of being a jackass and being Rivers? I'unno, it's up to you. But still. Yay!

Lost in a Dream was a complete failure.

I rushed things too much, jumped on the bandwagon too much, and ultimately created two main characters I hated.

But it was a learning experience, hopefully I can do things better now that I went through that.

Records of an Impossibility. I just spent three months completely unable to work on my actual plot.

all of them

Umm. Seriously though, I don't know where to start. Oh, right, I can start with wishing I had a beta-reader for Once, Happy Thoughts, Justice, wishing I had a muse for AFK, wanting more time for a Vivere finale, wanting to make Vivere more vlogish, and there's more... there's always more.

I will never get over the shame that the big boost for Slenderia's fame, which got me out in public, was my post about H(a)unting and Scared.
In my defense, that was before H(a)unting had gotten as ridiculous as it is now, but is still not quite way hindsight would want me to have done it.

As for Smiting the Gods, I'll make a post about that in my Accidentallies thread when I get to it (which shouldn't be very long, as I'm doing all the OW blogs together, and Father of Light is in the F's on the list)

I had a livejournal Slenderblog I did a couple years ago. I didn't plan anything, and I just made shit up as I went.

It was a meandering, pointless mess and we will never speak of it again.

Time Bleeds. Just... it went horribly, horribly wrong. I did have a story planned out, but was pretty much making up shit as I went along and working it into how things were supposed to go. Lots of vague things happened that never really get explained... I could go on...

Though I guess it wasn't completely bad. The two main characters I think turned out okay and the spin-off blog with Ridley is working out much better.

Coming up with what I thought was a pretty good plan, starting the story without writing an outline of that plan down, and forgetting my intentions halfway through...

I regret Record. I did basically nothing right. Never got to do anything with the native mythology like I wanted. Tried to head down numerous conflicting paths. Planned on comments and only got a couple. I am a terrible planner.

In Now I Shall Know You Again, making the whole "Hyde" thing a "twist" (everyone saw it coming from the first post) and only coming up with the Girl arc near the end of my run when I was planning on wrapping things up.

In Don't Shoot The Messenger, not managing to figure out Messi's character until around the tenth post. Although I think that everyone struggles with their characters a bit at first. Still, the early posts don't really mesh as well with the later ones.

In Abnormal Happenings, having a completely undeveloped character. It made it so hard to write when I didn't know how the character would react to things.

In the Wordpress Slenderbloggins, poor pacing problems and the Seeker/SeekerX arc (which was basically just a sanctioned/planned gamejack). I could have done a lot with it, but it just...didn't work out as planned.

Although really, apart from that, that's it. I have surprisingly few regrets with my blogs.

Well, I started a tried starting a second Slenderblog, but now I'm busy with all the stuff at school, updating Family Portraits, updating Slendy n' Friends, and writing my Puppeteer stories. It also requires a lot of research for an idea I no longer have any interest in. I wish there was a delete button...

I regret Keep to the Trails entirely. I hated my shitty writing style, the lack of personality and individualism of my characters, the uncertainty of where to go next, how fast, and for how long, etc. etc.
I should've planned it out better and known what I wanted to do and say, because I usually work better that way.

Hopefully my new blog will be better. Maybe that one won't get deleted.

I regret the first posts in This is Not a Blog. I mean, I loved it, but I completely failed to understand that I needed to have a decent writing style in order to draw people into the story. Meaning the old posts kind of jarred with later posts.

I regret not having planned out the Refugees more when I'd started. I planned out the characters meticulously, but almost nothing of the plot in itself. Even now, it's not as well-formed as my last ones, or the overall story as a whole.

Also, I regret my shitty videos.

I regret making No Escape From Reality. I had SO many ideas, but I resorted to blatant gamejacking, and it became an inside joke in the Unfiction forums.
The sad thing? I thought of doing a sequel.

Well, my biggest regret for my first blog (The Readers Resort) was not ending it while it was good, and falling into 'FRIENDS' syndrome. I was basically making up bullshit in the second half as I went along, just to extend the time before the punchline. It's obvious which bits were scripted, and which were off the wall (at least to me it is). Also Nazis. Why did I ever think that was a good idea?

It's a little too early to tell with my newer blogs, but they do have various problems I'm gonna regret later.

PostSubject: Re: Your Blogging Regrets   Your Blogging Regrets EmptySat Aug 27, 2011 9:00 am

My regrets about WYAITD are well-known; the creation of the Revenants and Conduits, two terrible ideas (though the latter more terrible than the former), which are still in the process of being purged wholesale from the Mythos. My pathetic attempts to be a Mythos villain for the first two or three days before I started developing Reach into a sympathetic character. My convodump posts were a bit ridiculous in terms of length too but I wouldn't change them in a rewrite, since they became part of WYAITD's style.

As for my other works, well, they're not done yet, so I don't really have any regrets as such so far. The one problem I did have (LLM's disproportionate popularity in comparison to TD's) has managed to sort itself out; Trembling Dice now handily outperforms Little Lion Man both in terms of statistics and critical acclaim. I'm sure I'll have regrets about both by the time I'm done them though, as with AFK and IMF.

Yeah, I still call bullshit.

Hmm...honestly, I don't have very many regrets. Just little details with ST and I suppose Mystic could've used a bit more preparation beforehand, but otherwise...surprisingly enough, I don't regret all that much. Sounds kinda egotistical, and I'm sure that'll change in a couple weeks when I'm fed up and insecure with myself XD

My biggest regret... doing video portions of my story. If I had simply kept Compilations on Youtube and the story split off to the blog, compileTRUTH would have been very different. A lot of things had to be scrapped because I couldn't film them, due to technical limitations or a lack of actors. (The grandest of which would have been the mythos' first-and-only on-screen appearance of Redlight)

I could have done a lot more and would have had a lot less difficulty had it been the other way around... that said, had I not done the video, there's a lot of great people I would never have met, so I don't truly regret it... just something I could have handled with more finesse.

incorporating slender man for only the first couple of posts in my blog was a sort of stupid move

also the writing didn't pan out as well as I wanted it to and the plot sort of spiraled off into nothing at the end

Your Blogging Regrets Empty
PostSubject: Re: Your Blogging Regrets   Your Blogging Regrets EmptyTue Sep 06, 2011 5:36 am

Oh, man, where to start with Observe and Terminate.

1. Lasers.

2. Slow posting of late, coupled with a bizarre and amorphous schedule, further combined with simply starting with a complete lack of plot, which has slowly changed as time has gone on into something vaguely resembling a plot. 'This whole goddamn adventure has been nothing but pointless build ups toward pay offs that never happen' actually describes the whole blog extremely well. Shit kept getting real with no real payoff.

3. One crossover or two as time goes on is OK. Fifteen is not, and I think I did one too many for it to be healthy for anyone involved. Some would disagree, but this is my take on it.

4. Less Slender Man in person than there should've been so far.

5. Pretty much anything too sci-fi, especially lasers.

6. Some stuff just involved talking to people through the blog who shouldn't have been spoken to.

7. Father Paranoia. That is all.

8. Hell, just ask me about specific details that haven't come up in a while. Chances are I'll complain about having included it in the first place, or complain about not doing more with it when I could have.

9. The sheer length of the blog. It's been going on for close to a year by now, easily reaching tl;dr status.
