Rules for Killing Slender Man
I want to preceed all of this by saying that I do not advocate the demise of Slender Man (while out of character), and that I have no plans or intentions for ever killing him in-game.
Still, I'm couriouse about just how immortal our tall antagonist is, and I kind of want to see what it would be like if the mythos could kill him off. Therefore, I'm makeing a set of rules that must be fullfilled before Slender Man can be killed in the mythos, and a seperate, slightly less drastic, set of rules for people who are making stories that aren't an offical part of the larger verse (things like short stories or movies that are deliberatly non-caonnical). Try to remember that this is all in good fun, if you want to add anything to the lists, or want to make your own feel free.
The Slender Man can't really die, the best you can do is banishment, trapping him, or hurting him bad enough that he needs to step back for a while, but actual death, not happening.
It can't be easy, there's no way you can be fighting or running from him the entire story, and then suddenly find a magic spell that banishs him without any problem, there needs to be a close call. In fact, the ideal situation is that Slender Man is toying with your characters (who are barely surviving) and then they barely pull off victory, he could have won at any time, they just barely survived, get it?
There should be an epic battle. This ties in well with the one above, there needs to be a scene where Slender Man is tearing the setting apart, and our heros need to be throwing everything they have at him (either buying time or trying to exploit/find a weakness).
The origonal plan must fail. Just because the heros got something right, doesn't mean everything will go according to plan, something must inevitably screw up their first chance, forcing them to fall back on a less reliable stratagey. That's not just Slender stories, that's cliche well-done stories everywhere. (Bouns points if the original plan would have killed him and the sucessful one only does one of the three things mintioned in #1).
The last note shouldn't be happy, the story needs to close in an ominious or meloncholy manner, there may be hope after the beast is "slain", but because of rule number one that feeling shouldn't last.
Someone needs to get injured. Ideally everyone still alive needs to get injured, and not like a scratch, either, it doesn't need to be fatal or dibilatating (though extra points if it is), but it does need to leave a scar.
It must follow all of the rules stated above, Slender is still alive, plans went bad, people got hurt, there was an epic battle, the works.
There needs to be sufficiant buildup, absolutly everbody must know that the final battle is coming, this should be like the solistice thing on crack, preperations will go on for months and be talked about on every blog.
People need to die, ovbiously there will be some survivors, but it should be a meger amount compared to the number of people going into it, and while some should die in preperation, most of the fatalities should occur during the final battle (bonus points if it's an act of self sacrifice, and the person they were trying to save died anyway).
There needs to be a lot of side changing. Proxies that relize there is a chance of defeating the Slenderman will begin to work against him, and hunted who realize the final battle is coming should join up with Slender for better chances. A lot of this should occur during the actual final battle.
The final blow cannot be landed by an actual blogger. Because everybody would want this role there is no way to fairly let one person have it. The idea here would be to create a entirely new character from scratch who shows up just for the final battle, no one would control him (or her) and everbody would just witness the final strike. The only possible exception to this rule would be an open source character that had been around for a long time without being controled by anybody.
The Hero (who lands the final blow) should be defeated, prefererably in a format preportional to Slender's defeat (If Slender is hurt the hero dies, is Slender is banished so is the hero). In game this was one of my character's oppositions to the Core Theory because "That only works for stories, and this is real" but from an out of game prespective this really is the only way it can go down.
Well there you have it, the instrusction book on taking down an immortal Eldritich Abomonination.

So what you're saying is: if it is an existing character, then it has to be Omega.FreedomCaged wrote:

Yes! And have him shout something along the lines of "I will be your END!" at some point during their initial one-on-one! (or have it right at the climax where they both die/disappear)
On another note, I reckon killing him off wouldn't be so bad. After all, as one canon ends, a new one could begin, inspired by the first. It could even carry on where the first one left off, starting with the Slender Man in a completely weakened state, at first just bleeding through the cracks of reality. And I'm not going to go any further with this idea in case I start planning a fully formed plot-line for the "new mythos".

Pretty much, I was just trying to be subtle about it. But really, with all he has done in the mythos its almost a given, in fact I'm pretty sure that theres a running joke somewhere that "only Omega can kill Slenderman."

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
I saw the title of this thread and was severely disappointed and did not have high hopes for whatever was written down, but fuck did you prove me wrong.
I pretty much agree with this whole heartedly, I've seen people claim in random blogs that pop up every now and again that they hold the key to killing Slender Man and my only reaction is to punch through my lap top and buy a new one.
You've pretty much got it down pact what needs to be done, I'd love to see the entire blogosphere collaborate on this, kill off some major characters who end up making a huge sacrifice, only to lock him away somehow for a short time. Maybe have it be like some sort of Van Helsing thing where werewolves are vampires weakness, have some other horrorterror be Slender Man's weakness.
Well not necessarily a weakness per-say, just something that can keep him down for a short amount of time. Ultimately I always want to see Slender Man come out on top.

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
This is such a cool thread. A really really cool thread.
And was it weird that when you were talking about open source characters, I thought Redlight? I mean, I know he didn't start out that way and he's dead and on top of being dead he's kind of a jerk. But redlight killing slender man would be pretty awesome. At least in my opinion.
Course Omega also works. I'm an Omega fangirl.

Hey thanks, I was a bit worried about making this because I figured that lots of people would have a bad reaction to it, but eventually I ended up tring anyway. I'm glad I was able to turn such a taboo subject around for you.

Heh, my blog is kind of one of those blogs. In my defense though it was initailly a defense mechanism agianst having any reason to blog, making him immune to direct interaction anywhere in the mythos, clearly it didn't work out so well. Here's the initial conversation in my head: "This mythos is great, I should totally interact with it, but I don't want to start my own blog. Blogging looks like it would take a lot of work, and then you have to deal with all of these interactions and fueds and trolling, and you inevitably get sucked into the bigger picture. I know, I'll make it so my character can't enter the mythos, a deal with Slender Man or something, make it so I have no reason to join either side." One month later the first post goes up on my new blog... glad my plan worked so well. Fear not, though, I have plaaaans, killing Slender Man will not be one of my characters ultiminate victories, and it is highly likely he will never be truely injured by my character either.

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
Even without a blog, commenting can get you pulled into things. I had to turn my personal Google account (the one I put on applications) into a character (and make something that isn't really a blog) because I commented too much. I'm just hoping that there's no way to see that blog without being on Blogger.FreedomCaged wrote:Blogging looks like it would take a lot of work, and then you have to deal with all of these interactions and fueds and trolling, and you inevitably get sucked into the bigger picture.
But that isn't the point of this topic.
I think I agree with you. It would be glorious if there was a collective effort to fight the Slenderman, but, well, it won't happen. It was tried last winter solstice, I believe, and even then when there were fewer blogs, participation was low. Sure, there is much more behind-the-scenes cooperation now, but not many people are going to prematurely end their storylines for this.

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
Hmm. Interesting observation: the topic is about rules for killing Slendy, but even the rules that allow for victory say "you can't
Anyway, when it comes to "canon" stories, I hold a much stricter view. You cannot kill the Slender Man. You cannot injure the Slender Man. You cannot even mentally withstand the Slender Man. Any victory you have over the Slender Man is just because he didn't care enough. If he wants you dead, he'll actually get serious.
When it comes to "non-canon" stories, I hold a much looser view. It might be because I'm a fan of high fantasy (though it's definitely a guilty pleasure), and sort of picture a one-shot story in a fantasy setting more than anything else--especially due to Core Theory (Core Theory was a good idea, but a huge instance of Wrong Genre Savvy). If you can find a way to come up with a logical reason to kill the Slender Man, I have no problem with it. Hell, if I write a Slender Man novel, he'll end up dead, justified with a string of theories (which would be canonical within that universe) linking the Slender Man, the Path of Black Leaves, the Bleeding Tree, and Yggdrasil.
It can be done, but it has to be entirely separate from the Slenderverse and it has to make sense from a narrative or internally logical standpoint.

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
I think the only way to kill him is to have the character do something so bizarre and unpredictable. Something that dose not make sense first glance but when you think about it, it kind of make sense and then at the end question rather or not if slender man actually did die or did the character go so crazy that he only imagines that he killed him.

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
I already have a time and place laid out for Slendy's demise. Namely June 6th 2012 in the fictional town of Slender Falls.
Let's test my plans against the rules given. I'm going non-canon as I've had very little interaction with the canonical stuff IC and what I had was mostly negative. (Mea Culpa)
Slender Falls will end with the Slender Man rendered entirely Fictional, his material form utterly destroyed and his spiritual form banished back to whatever world from whence it came. From that point on his only access to our continua will be through the stories we tell of him and even then he'll have no more physical existence than any other story. Of course that won't impact upon anyone else; from the perspective of the department those blogs will become and remain nothing but harmless stories.
Even with an orbital energy weapons platforms, entirely fictional constructs as traps and one of the swords of Arthurian and Celtic Legend. It's not exactly going to be a cake walk.
Slender Falls will be wiped off the map (not that it's on it). Possibly by orbital strike, possibly from enough slaughter to allow Red Jack to manifest.
That is just cliched. I'm trying to subvert some cliches. In fact since Slender Man is the hero of the mythos the department are deliberately playing the role of the villain to lure him in. Only instead of putting him in a death trap, explaining their evil scheme and then leaving him to escape while they go off to fix a sandwich or something, they're going to put an orbital energy weapon to his head, powerful enough to tear a hole in reality, and pull the trigger.
Of course it won't kill him. A town built in the shape of an Operator Sigil, filled with juicy runners for bait, surrounded with a teleportation suppression field that will prevent his escape and with an orbital weapons platform pointed straight at it; that's pretty much the dictionary definition of Death Trap. No he'll survive the first strike. He'll survive being attacked with Caladcholg. He may 'die' at the hands of Rodney the Barthing or Red Jack. I can't decide. If it's Red Jack, however, he'll definitely be dead dead and not just rendered fictional.
In the post where Slendy dies my narrator will also die in the last line.
The post 24 hours later will reveal how he didn't die but survived to narrate other tales. "Of course if that had happened how would I have managed to write that line. Who do you think I am, Lord Dunsany?"
If Rodney defeats Slendy it will be at his own liberty. He'll be banished back to JW's, unable to return to the material world beyond its threshold.
My narrator having overcome his NEADs during the build up to the final battle may well have a relapse. Given what happened to Grant Morrison when he tortured a narrative suit he was wearing at the time, I'm understandably shy of doing the same.

Killing the Slender Man? That's just a downright silly premise. Nobody should write a blog based on a character who's aim is to do just that.

Hence the reason for "Slender Man is esientially toying with everyone and doesn't even realize the threat exists until the actual finishing blow" (see my second "rule"). This is probably also an example of the Hero having super powers, and another reason no one person can play the hero, no personal victories except for the guy who makes the ultimate sacrefice.
Allan Assiduity, the trapped part of rule 1 was partially inspired by your closed zones speech, your blogs are awesome.

Re: Rules for Killing Slender Man
You know, I've actually put quite a lot of thought into this situation, and have come up with several possibilities.
If it's just me versus Slendy, then the ending will likely look something like this
Yes we will both be speaking Japanese for some reason.
Now, if someone (I'm guessing Andy) decides to help me in the final battle, it'll probably end up with something like this.
Now of course, we have to consider the very real possibility that Slendy will acquire a giant robot for the big finale. In normal circumstances, defeating said Slenderbot may only be done through the Power of Love; which pretty much automatically disqualifies me from the running. In which case, we'll need Andy to use the Sekiha Love Love Tenkyoken and defeat the Slenderbot.
If, however, we are able to harness the power of all our colors combined, then I'll just hit him with the FINAL COLOR BLASTER.
This, of course, is all assuming we're using regular powered Slendy (taking the average power level he seems to show across the Mythos). If we go with maximum level, full blown nearly omnipotent eldritch god, then we'll need an alternative method of defeating him.
I'm sure most of you know what I mean.
