The Coastal Project Empty
PostSubject: The Coastal Project    The Coastal Project EmptyFri Jul 13, 2012 5:40 pm

A starting video to the slender series me and a few friends have had planned for a while. Now that school work's out of the way, we have the time and capability to do it. I was hoping to garner some advice, critique. Anything to make the viewing experience more pleasurable.

More to come soon as we film it, and should the Slendernation find it not entirely hopeless!

The channel name is TheCoastalProject, and the first video is entitled 'Reasoning.'

Much obliged,

Lorthalis.

Well, one thing that you should be aware of is not advertising yourself too much. Although it does get the word out about your series, people tend to get annoyed by it, thus ruining your chance of a fanbase.

Another thing you should do is not put too much distortion in your videos. Too much distortion can get aggravating, so keep the distortion for parts that are most necessary.

You also might want to write out your series' story out many videos in advance. When I was writing out the story for my series, I planned videos for almost 20 videos in advance, completing our first season and starting our second. This gives you room to plan out the locations, actors, scripts, etc.

Practicing acting skills is also something you might wanna do for preparation. You want to act well, but you also want it to feel real for the viewers; basically act how you would if Slender Man (or any other paranormal or evil entity for that matter) was actually stalking you.

I hope this helped you. :3

Thanks, Sethlapod for the tips. I've done some rough drafts which me and the small group that's helping me go over frequently, making small adjustments. Distortion.. would you agree that it would be limited to when the Slenderman makes an appearance, or is nearby?

Also, do you have any tips for how to pull off a reasonable distortion? I'd hate to be too flashy with it. Over-saturation, perhaps?

Many thanks, Lorthalis.

When he makes and appearance or is nearby is usually the times that distortion is used.

Hmm, to pull off reasonable distortion, I'd say to use Adobe After Effects or Sony Vegas to simulate it. I'd say to add some good static effects over the footage, maybe some visual tearing. Increasing or decreasing contrast in the video is also a great effect. As for audio distortion, I recommend editing the audio of the video and add effects for distortion, increase or decrease the volume, increase/decrease the bass and/or treble, things like that.

EDIT: You might also want to download some distortion sound clips. That's what we do to save time. We usually use this site to get the sound clips: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Do you think using Audacity could work to make a track for distortion, per chance?

Regards, Lorthalis. (Whom should really adjust his signature for this.)

Audacity is definitely a good program to use for those sort of things.

Just a quick update; I've thrown in an update video. Apologies for the length and rambling nature, but I'm not sure I've got the confusion down right. I, as always, appreciate any criticism.

Firstly, we need to get all of our little crew together, and with vacations and such going on, as well as the guy acting as Wes being generally ill, we've had to put it off. Should be able to get back to filming this week or next, and thanks for your patience.

Because. You know. You're all gripping your computer chairs, or seating area of choice in anticipation.
