Is Slenderman real?

Post by Myst on Thu Aug 16, 2012 7:01 pm

So i recently researched Slendy,But from a friend he says hes real.Is he actually real? I know a few things about him. things i know below. Is he real and are ANY of the things real?

1,He hates it when you stare at him.
2,He MIGHT kill you if you stare at him.
3, He can teleport.
4,He has tentacles.
5,He has NO FACE.
6,Hes a thing.
7,He used to be a human.
8,He envies us.
9,He can kill you from far away.
10,If your behind a wall,he cant see you,but knows your there.
11,He survives on fear.
12,The more you know about him,the more he knows about you.
13,He wants to kill everyone.
14,He can kind of talk but only make static noises.
15,If hes behind you,He knows you will turn around.

Are any of these true, and is Slendy real?

If your friend actually took the time to dig a little, he'd find that Slender Man is 100% fabrication, made for horror related entertainment value only. Victor Surge, on a "Photoshop pictures to look paranormal" thread on the forum Something Awful, made a few pictures and a couple of transcriptions featuring a model based off a character in the "Fatal Frame" series. He edited the model to look like the Slendy we all know, love, and fear and thus-Slender Man was born and the idea of him took over the thread and spread out into the blogs and vlogs and forums we have now. No, Slender Man isn't real. No, he isn't stalking anyone. No, he won't accept a hug or love-he's a fictional creature made to inspire terror and nightmares.

As for the question of "Are any of these aspects listed true?" I'm sure they can be, if you choose to believe they are. Slender Man is a very changeable free-domain character. In Victor's original post on Something Awful, he was actually connected to fires and death by fire as well as heavy fog. The association with children was there but it didn't become a major aspect until a bit after Marble Hornets started up and wasn't well known. Tulpa-the idea that belief in an object makes that object become reality-is the driving force behind Slender Man's flexibility.

Back onto the main topic here: Slender Man isn't real. End of Discussion on that.

Agree with the replies above - the crux of the whole Slenderman experience is the enjoyment of the fear that is self-generated through your willing immersion in the lore - without diving in so deep that you actually believe in it as reality. Allow yourself to go far enough to make it your reality for the time you are "in the game", but when the phone rings or your assignment is due in, leave it behind!

Do you usually get topics like this? Or has it been increasing since my arrival?

Yes. Your arrival was totally the catalyst that started all this because you are such a special little snowflake.

I seldom facepalm as much as I did at this thread.
Not tryin' to be mean here, but let's be honest.
Your question kind of answered itself. He doesn't have a face. I'm sure that alone would alert you to the fact that Slenderman doesn't exist in reality. Read the rules, and you're warned explicitly not to post in-character. The reason for that would be that there is no such thing as a tall faceless man in a suit that can teleport and will likely kill you if you learn too much about him.
[/rant]
And that's a good thing...

So i was reading your list, and I read the first five with no problem.....

Myst wrote:

1,He hates it when you stare at him.
2,He MIGHT kill you if you stare at him.
3, He can teleport.
4,He has tentacles.
5,He has NO FACE.

Then this is how I read number six

Myst wrote:

6,He has a thing.

What kind of thing are we talking about? Oh my, my mind went to a naughty place fast...... Oh shit! it's "He's a thing"! Wow, silly me and my lack of sleep (srsly, we had a storm last night, which freaked my cat out so she wouldnt sleep; instead she kept meowing and howling really loud.... and then the power went out for a while, which always freaks me out because it's so dark out in the middle of nowhere with no lights)

but yeah, if you're wanting to know if something is real or not and you make out a list of traits/attributes/etc, and they seem like they're out of a horror movie, then you have your answer.......*

*Well, with the exception of things such as aliens, ghosts, and some cryptozoological creatures such as bigfoot. Those have, imo, at least a chance of being real. Smile

He's not real. If he were real, don't you think people would know about him? We'd have to be pretty ignorant to go centuries without knowing Slenderman is here. Plus, there's no substantial evidence he exists.

This is difficult. My natural instincts were screaming at me "TROLL THIS MAN! TROLLLLLLL!!!"

But I abstain in the interest of knowledge and the quest for enlightenment.

Slender man is a very brilliantly designed work of public fiction. Anyone and everyone is welcome to add to the story.

If we want to get philosophical and talk about the Tulpa effect, it's could be theorized that if enough people around the world learned about Slendy and concentrated on believing he was real.... Well, you know....

But no... No Slender Man.
