Involving viewers/outsiders Empty
PostSubject: Involving viewers/outsiders   Involving viewers/outsiders EmptySun Aug 19, 2012 9:49 pm

Sorry if this is a topic that was already posted, but can I get some advice on involving viewers more in my vlog's story progression? While I want to keep the background of my vlog consistent, I feel like it would be fun to have the details and flow flexible and subject to outside involvement (kinda like an ARG, I guess?). I've had some back and forth messaging with one viewer, and I mentioned his efforts to enlighten me in one video, but I feel like there is more I could be doing to make viewers feel like they're a part of what is happening.

Any suggestions?

A pretty standard way to achieve this is to have a problem or predicament come up that your character can't solve on their own. Puzzles and riddles are often good for this. Once your viewers become players, they'll want to feel like they're helping to achieve something.

You could simply open up communication between your character and the viewers, and let them lead the way in conversations. Although if you take this route, you'll have to be careful not to open the door to any potential gamejackers.

I think a lot of it depends on how far ahead you've got your story planned and how much of it you're actually able or willing to adapt based on interaction.

Hm... I'll give the puzzles and riddles concept some thought, then.
What did you mean by opening communication, though? Like a livestream?

I honestly thinking inviting viewer interaction and challenging myself to adapt to the resulting developments would be a really cool thing to do, even if it is a bit risky.
