Potential SOPA revival Empty
PostSubject: Potential SOPA revival   Potential SOPA revival EmptySun Aug 25, 2013 5:25 pm

I have been following activity on the Fanfiction site, and I heard about the discussion on a potential SOPA revival by the Obama administration.

Concept is that streaming copyrighted works will be considered a felony, much like last time.

This is one of the articles about this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2013/08/05/sopa-died-in-2012-but-obama-administration-wants-to-revive-part-of-it/

Since the definition of streaming copyrighted works is unclear, some of the people I did chat with are worried.

There's also this petition at the White House that is picking up steam: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-sopa-2013/LMzMVrQF

Reason why I'm posting this is because of the recent copyright controversy arising within Slenderman since it got popular. I just want to inform what's going on, that's all, since the works and trailheads, are homages, which nonetheless expands the Slenderverse.

What I really don't understand is why the hell does the USA get to make a law that affects the whole world. If they want to make laws they should make it for their country, and their country only. Also, the movie/game/music producers nowadays see only money in everything. Don't they get enough of it already? Music producers can do what Radiohead (I think) did. They put up a new album up for free download, and if you liked it, you could donate as much as you wanted. They ended up earning more with that system than with the one they used before. This could also be pulled off by video game and movie producers as well.
