Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
March 28, 1923
Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland
The invigorating spring breeze was the only luxury the platoon had in over 3 months. They weren’t really complaining though. They were professionals and they knew just what they had to do.
The anti-treaty forces were on the run. It seemed that it was all going to be over in a few weeks. They could feel it. And their job was to make sure of it. The platoon –which to this day remains unnamed-, was a special forces unit put together with a dozen of the elite soldiers in the Free State Army. They were especially skilled in the art of espionage and close quarters combat. They were relentless, cold-blooded and precise.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
The young man sat up and rubbed his eyes until he came to himself. He put on his dog tag which said “Carrigan, Jack Allen III” and he was all ready to hit the road.
He had a slim frame and good-looking features. Fair hair, pale skin and piercing light green eyes were among the first things that caught the eye. His height, weight and almost too perfect standing posture earned him the nickname “Jack Anarchy”, a bizzare looking fish rumored to have inhabited River Shannon, a few miles north of County Cork.
Jack Anarchy was working a messenger route between his platoon and a nearby Free State headquarters. The platoon was always on the move, so every trip he made, he found it a little more difficult to locate them. But they had a solution for that particular problem.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
He came across a fork and looked at both ways. It was either left or right. For a skilled tracker it would be rather easy to follow the footsteps but the platoon also contained skilled trackers as well. They were easily covering their tracks along the way.
He looked opon the rocks on the both side of the road and saw a sign on the left. A circle with a cross through it.
That was it. That, and the motto “Non Timebo Mala” was the sign of his platoon. If they needed someone in their own platoon to find them, they just had to scratch the symbol on something visible. As for someone else, they did the same thing. Because the mere sight of it made enemies uneasy, they always though twice before going after them. The platoon was confident, capable and resourceful. All anyone needs from a group of soldiers.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
Jack Anarchy took a swig of his whiskey and continued writing in the candlelight. Two days ago, Liam Lynch and his friends fell into their trap, they acquired the papers they needed, which was the sole purpose of this mission. But also with their leaders dead, the anti-treaty forces were sure to dissolve, it was just a matter of time.
They emerged victorious, so for the first time in a long time, he felt like celebrating. He took a large sip from the jar and carefully signed his letter; “Your husband, soon to be in your loving arms, Jack. Kiss our son for me.”

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
She couldn’t write him back because they were impossible to locate, let alone deliver a letter to. But that was okay, here he was. Home. He built this cabin in the woods right about the time Caroline got pregnant for their now 6-year-old son, Michael. It’s been months though, he thought. He should have grown up a lot. A tall man he was going to be, just like his father.
The door he just knocked was unlocked, so he let himself in. “I’m back!” he yelled out, but there was no answer. With rapidly elevating heartbeats and the feeling that something might be wrong, he instinctively went for the door to the bedroom, he and Caroline shared.
Caroline was lying in the bed, slowly breathing. She didn’t even turn to look at his husband. She didn’t even notice him coming in. Her eyes were locked on the sight of the wooden ceiling.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
Indeed the news were bad. Caroline’s lips were reluctantly forming the words, trying to explain what happened but Jack Anarchy, the fearless soldier of the Free State army went deaf after hearing the part about his son going missing. He didn’t hear any of the rest.
Gaining a little energy with her husband’s arrival, she later explained that, their son was missing for nearly 2 months, despite the search of the rangers and the local folk, he was nowhere to be found. She also told him that she fell ill after the rangers had given up hope and stopped looking for him. She could rarely get up from her bed, if ever.
Two weeks passed, but the agony he felt from the loss of his son only grew stronger in Jack Anarchy. Meanwhile, Caroline’s condition was worsening, the doctor’s efforts couldn’t even make a slight change. He warned Jack, told him to be ready, it could be anytime.Three weeks later, in a rainy summer afternoon, he buried the love of his life, holding his tears.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
A few days after Caroline’s untimely demise, Jack Anarchy was chopping wood in the backyard. It was all he could do for three days. Endless stacks of chopped wood weren’t going to be used anytime soon.
Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice shouting “Da? Da?!” and almost instantly dropped the axe to the ground. He was so shocked, he couldn’t even run towards the sound of his son’s voice for a moment.
He came back to him. They were together again. Poor kid couldn’t remember anything that happened to him but that wasn’t important. Jack couldn’t care less about what happened. His Michael was back.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
The next few months passed difficultly for both of them with Caroline gone, but they were relatively happy. Jack was doing all he could to make sure of it.
When asked again several times by his father, and the forest rangers on a couple of occasions, Michael said the last thing on his memory before disappearing was playing in the woods just outside the cabin, then he was back.
He was also having nightmares more frequently than ever, keeping Jack up at night, but it was only natural. Caroline was the one who usually comforted Michael in these situations. Jack was trying his best but he knew he couldn’t fill in for her no matter how hard he tried.
As the winter approaches, now was the appropriate time to pick up some wood. Jack knocked on his son’s door to wake him up, then he opened the door to find him asleep. He wanted him to come along but this was the first night in a long time he slept through with no nightmares to wake him up, so he decided to leave the boy undisturbed. He locked the front door on his way out and went out to the woods.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
Jack was satisfied with his work and he decided to take a little break. The weather was chilly but the sun and the breath of fresh air filled him with joy. He put down his gear and flexed his long arms looking up at the morning sky, like he was trying to grab the sun.
That’s when he noticed the smoke coming from the south, where his cabin was located. Experiencing the same feeling he had when he came home from the war, his heart raced as he ran straight to the cabin.
When he reached the range he could see his house clearly, he froze. Jack Anarchy froze for the third time in his life. His otherwise fearless, decisive, triumphant existence shook with the tremors on his backbone, his perfect posture, now resembling a scorpion surrounded by fire. The fire. The fire.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
Michael’s bedroom was on fire and he could hear his son screaming for help. He realized he left anything that can cut through the doors of the cabin, way back in the woods, so he unlocked the front door as quickly as he can, shouting “I’m coming son!” to at least let him know he’s there.
When he got in, the cabin was filled with smoke and the fire was spreading to the other rooms, blocking the way on his son’s room. He didn’t mind though. The only thing on his mind was to rescue Michael. Little flames caught on to his clothes, climbing his body, burning him, but he carried on.
Stuck under two beams which collapsed with the fire, Michael saw his “da” coming through the flames, and before the smoke which filled his lungs slipped him into unconsciousness, he managed to hear the words: “Tabhair dom do Lámh!” coming from Jack.
Carrying him outside, Jack lay Michael on the ground as the rangers who saw the smokes came for help. His little son was heavily burned and he didn’t seem to be breathing. “Wake up! Please wake up!” he screamed at him helplessly. There was no response.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
As the rangers carried Michael’s lifeless body away from the site of the accident, Jack pushed the doctor away, who was offering to check his burns and he ran amok to the woods, deliriously. He ran for a while, then he stopped. He got behind a tree, and he looked at the direction he came from. The fire was put out eventually. Now there was only smoke coming off the remnants of his old life. As the smoke came up, it took away everything he ever had with it. And he stood there, watched it all.
The rangers intended to go look for him but the doctor stopped them, probably told’em to leave him be. Jack was partially burned himself, but he didn’t feel any physical pain at all. He just stood there, without moving a single inch, staring into the abyss with no expression on his face. He couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t even blink.
The next day, before Michael’s funeral, the rangers found Jack who spent the night in the woods, took care of his burns, gave him a pair of clothes, a crimson tie and a black suit to wear on the funeral. They insisted on giving him a place to stay but he refused. After the funeral, Jack Anarchy left without saying a word to anybody and no one in the Country Limerick saw his face again.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
He wandered and wandered with no purpose, losing control of his mind in time. He stayed away from any place, any settlement with people in it. He spent weeks, months without seeing anybody’s face. The more time he spent alone, the more alienated he felt from everything around him. Sometimes he couldn’t get a moment of sleep for days. The hatred, paranoia and the delusions got the best of Jack Anarchy, took him away from the reality and turned him into somebody else.
One day, he woke up from an hour of sleep in the woods and put on his suit for the first time since the funeral. He started walking with a fast pace, like he had something to do and he’s late for it. But his face remained dull, expressionless.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
He gained consciousness in what felt like a sea of fire. It felt like it but sure didn’t seem like it. In fact, it didn’t seem like anything he saw before. It was just like seeing, but not with his eyes. Flames didn’t hurt him either. Not in a normal sense anyway. He rose up on his feet, his movement was fluid, effortless. He realized he didn’t even have to put one leg in front of the other. But the pain. The pain was there. It was torture. He remembered it all, the flames that took his son away from him.

Re: The Story Of Jack Anarchy
15 years later, when the old local Garda station burned down, the only things that have been salvaged from it were a few unsolved files concerning child abductions which have been reported in a short period of time. There was one other file which included the only survivor’s report on the 1924 library fire.
According to the report, a man in a business suit had poured diesel fuel all over the second floor, then he poured the rest down his head and torched himself up along with the library. The fire was so intense, it quickly spreaded and took many lives in a matter of seconds.
