The Rake > Slenderman
A little bit before EMH introduced The Rake to their series, I finally brought myself to read the entire The Rake creepypasta (I had read bits of it before, but it was tl;dr). Since then, Slendy just hasn't been doing it for me. I mean, he's neat... but nothing compared to the pants-shitting horror that is the rake.
The Rake has kind of ruined Slenderman for me.

Re: The Rake > Slenderman
I agree and disagree. They're both scary as fuck. I'm simultaneously terrified of the rake staring at me when I open my eyes whenever I wake up and Slender Man watching me in the dark. All it has done is add on to my fears. Which brings my list of fears to two. Thanks for that internets.

I still enjoy Slendy. Just not as much as I did before I knew about The Rake.
And if EMH is making The Rake an agent of HABIT, as some are speculating, they're doin it rong.

I used to think The Rake was HABIT. Now I'm pretty sure it's Evan, but if he is an agent of HABIT, he probably has his own agenda.

I don't see The Rake as having any agenda at all, besides fucking shit up. I see him as truly chaotic evil. Feral.

I find Slenderman way scarier and much better than The Rake.

I found it scary simply because it's supposedly located in rural New York...and I live in New York....

Re: The Rake > Slenderman
I suppose they're sort of complimentary, considering they do things entirely differently...
The Rake is feral. Wild. He watches partly, but mostly does the grotesque murdering thing. He kills, and tears, and no one can stop him.
HE is all about planning and plotting. HE has HIS own reasons for doing as he does, and isn't making them obvious. Personally, I like to think it's some sort of a game, or perhaps a love obsession. HE plays with HIS food before HE does whatever the hell HE does with it.
The Rake kills you. Slender Man knows that it's very easy to make life worse than death.

Re: The Rake > Slenderman
When the rake has handful of video series, an endless barrage of blogs and a growing, active forum dedicated to him, you get back to me on this topic.
Void essentially said everything else I would argue for in the superiority of Slender Man as a concept.
A rabid dog might scare me, but a mind actively plotting against you is horrifying.[/metaphor][/opinion]

You guys have kind of convinced me. Slenderman = The Rake.
And @Vivi, I look forward to the first great Rake ARG.

Re: The Rake > Slenderman
I personally like Slender Man better, for pretty much the sane reason Void and Vivi said. But in all reality, they are both quite good at what they do. Fucking our shit up. They just do it in different ways.

This made me think of something.
I don't think the Rake is capable of an ARG. Video series, blogs, sure, but not an ARG. Why? The Rake isn't associated with puzzles or mindfuckery, and so an ARG where watchers can participate isn't really in the realm of possibility.
As for my opinion on the subject at hand, I have certainly gotten up and checked the foot of my bed for the rake on multiple occasions. But I have looked outside my window for the Slender Man many more times.
In my opinion, Slender Man > The Rake.

Am I the only one who read that creepypasta and didn't interpret the Rake as being feral? He actually came across as deceptively intelligent to me.
