PostSubject: Absolute blogs   Absolute blogs EmptySun Feb 27, 2011 11:18 am

I was just looking through the Slender/Slander blog thread. I notice that a lot of people tend to give out good info, like 'pacing is a bit weak here' or 'this reveal would've been greater at the end'.

Most of these are pretty accurate, especially ones about mine. I got to wondering...

What if we could revisit those blogs, and change them to more thematic stories? It'd be tough to do, right? A lot of my gen's interaction was through comments, and people have always said that you had to read thirty blogs to get the full story we gave.

What if we could take those blogs, and rewrite them here, through a different perspective?

Here's my concept.

People wanting to participate in this experiment, take another person's blog, read it, talk to the writer, essentially rewrite it in their own words, using the retrospect and such we've learned. In short, a new edition.

I know this sounds weird, and obviously I haven't figured out the entirety of it all by this post's date, but I think that this has potential.

Anyone else think so?

I love this idea. I don't care if I'm biting off more than I can chew when I say this, but I'd love to be one of the writers. Especially if it meant getting to talk with the original author about their ideas and themes.

(Working in the Slender Man Mythos is making me love collaborative writing far more than I ever thought I would Very Happy )

well, I nominate mine for someone to redo in their own image of my character, anyone else throwing theirs in the ring?

I believe Thage was more than willing to put PNSN up on the auction block as well?

Now, here's a question, how do we 'replay' certain events that have happened in the community? Certainly some of these can be stand alone reads, but others like mine are very vested in what happens around them.

Any ideas on how to do that part?

Centralize the stories into a single location?

Or move the plot that was in the comments into the posts? So instead of having a long comment log where events happen, you just have a post talking about what happened?

hmm that's not a bad idea omega, like maybe have all the players in a single main thread or something? Both are good options!

This sounds like so many different flavours of awesome I don't even. We're happy to throw Exilis Veritas in the ring, if it's possible to do an uncompleted blog.

hmmm, for blogs still going, it might provide a different look at how you might want to approach things.

I think we all need to be on the same page about a few things before anything happens.

What this is, is a re-imagining of a character and a story.
This is not a "This is how it should have gone."
It is also most certainly not a competition between the original writer and the reimaginer.
The possibility of the redone blog being seen, is probably somewhat small, so it's more of a creative exercise, and an homage to the mythos than a chance for 16000 views or whatever.

And yes, if someone with some actual-factual talent wants to take a swing at writing Fizzy, go for it. Make my almost-secret shame be not a shame!

I'm going to take PNSN for a spin I think. Fizzy was always interesting, and never really had that ghost hunter bit really work out. so I might do a bit of that this week sometime

this does mean I'll need to talk to you (thage) about it, and concepts and the like.

Some quick questions:
-Do we need to take later canon events into consideration? For example, would we need to make sure not to contradict the recent reveals about redlight, or could we write him how we best think fits the story?

-Would it simply be a rewrite, or could we expand on certain parts of the story? I'm assuming that for any major changes from the original canon we'd need to discuss it with the original author first.

-Are the absolute blogs going to be written at the same time, with real time crossover, or will they be written at their own pace?

I'm really tempted to write for Hint of Serendipity (as I do need practice writing main characters who are actually sane Laughing ), but that might be stretching myself a bit too far. *Shrugs*

i think the basic concepts that worked at that time should be kept.

Of course Redlight wasn't a big player back then either,

It'd be pointless to 'update' the themes and concepts to current, because in 3 months everything'll change again.

also, I'd be honored for you to re-envision my work, I can't wait to get to work!

Also, yes for the most part, he was just as sane as...uhm, the rain? or whatever

god, so many little quirks I gave him to help emphasize his mood. Like breaking off into sentence fragments, and refusing to capitalize when feeling depressed and alone (which might clue you in on something else) Very Happy

I was mostly just wondering whether I'd need to have redlight as a group or one person. Or if I could make him Jay.

I intend to keep all the things which worked for HoS; when I said expand, I meant doing things like putting more focus on Rika (since in the rewrite, she wouldn't necessarily have to be killed by B)

Yeah, the quirks were one of the things I really loved about the character. I hope I'd be able to capture the same emotions you were with that.

I really wanted to do more with her, but at the time, everyone had their own thing going on, especially with Nessa having her issues, I felt it'd detract from her struggle if I had my own personal foe yay war with Rika at the same time.

So I decided to hunker down, and hold up for the Solstice, and explore the madness element I had barely scratched.

Besides for the most part, Rika was still B's character, I felt I needed to be cautious with her, as technically no permission was given to use her. She was a great troll though!

Yeah, I understand that. I just feel like there was a lot of potential missed there. Final decision would be your call, but Absolute Hint of Serendipity could be an opportunity to explore the things you weren't able to in the original version due to those reasons.

Do you know if there's any way to get in contact with Nessa to see if she'd want to participate in this as well?

*laughs because he knows a way to get in contact with Nessa*

I can ask her, yeah.

I'm really, really tempted to do this, now. I don't know what I'd rewrite, though. Probably Encyclopedia Slenderia. That one needed a lot of work.

I like the title "A hint of serendipity: the Compleat Works" Very Happy

I think for Fizzy it'll be "Para-Not-So-Normal Blog: Remastered Edition"

lol.

nor does the author you're considering revamping.

Don't any of you beat yourselves up for not 'knowing better'. Frankly, I never really bothered to write anything before this, and now, well, I see a bunch of people who have decided to really try something new, something that has a community. i see works that have been part of an entirely new genre, in a new medium. Each of us, in some small way, has been part of a big advancement in literature.

So don't obsess over those pacing issues, or clumsy paragraphs, you're friggin special, sunshine.

So I talked to Nessa, and she's declining to put Enter Light up. I think it's mostly because she considers it "old shame."

Personally, I am not a happy Vivi about most of my posts from before mid-January. n_n But what's posted is posted and the whole point of making mistakes is so you learn from them.

On topic, the idea of "Absolute" blogs is one of interest to me because it makes you think about the...um...not sure what everyone else calls it, but my drama teacher in high school called it "dramatic intention". The "dramatic intention" of the blog so to speak.
