Okay, this is the companion thread to Envoy's Butterfly War Council. Basically the plan is this: We kinda have two approaches to yasurc/mirrors, and all the other baddies for that matter, going at once, and the group is large enough now that these two approaches can't really agree on anything and we just end up arguing and stepping on each others toes and don't end up doing anything at all.

So we're delegating. Those who want to/are good at coming up with plans to fight stuff will do that, while those who want to/are good at talking to stuff and negotiating can do that. We plan separately, keep it so that there aren't too many cooks in the kitchen, and hopefully come up with twice as many plans for every situation as we normally do. Then the only arguing we have to do is /which/ plan to implement at any given time. Very Happy

We want to keep each other informed, so one side doesn't do something that screws up what the other side is working on, so we're making open forum threads, and we should bring our plans to the group as a whole to get a majority vote before actually trying something, but we can at least /formulate/ the plans without fighting all the time.

Hopefully this way we can make the most of our two months of communication, and get a heck of a lot done before being locked down again. Maybe even avoid the second lockdown all together. Very Happy

Mk, here's the things I propose we work on in here:

1. Figuring out what the chips in this poker game are. What do we want? What do we want to learn? What do we think it wants from us? What does it seem to want to learn from us? What are we /willing/ to sacrifice if we absolutely have to?
2. Coming up with a list of guidelines for how to talk to it. Suggestions:
-don't ask 5 questions at once. If you see someone has asked something, wait until it's answered before asking something else.
-Define our own terms. Things like if it offers us a choice we have to make, we tell /it/ how much time we need to decide, rather than letting it tell us. If it wants to make a deal of some kind, we tell it what we want rather than it telling us what it's willing to give.
-refrain from taunts and arguing in front of it if at all possible. Hoop had a theory that this thing feeds on negative emotions like fear and anger the way Roivas feeds on love. If that's true, the more we fight, the more we troll and insult, the more it gets exactly what it wants.
-Don't be afraid to bargain. If we don't like its initial offer, say so and suggest an alternative we'd be okay with.
3. Identify our own weaknesses and fortify them. It's always a step ahead of us, and it knows exactly where our buttons are. If we can find our buttons and prepare emotional defenses for when they're pushed, we can keep our heads better and won't be jerked around so badly.

This thing is trying to instigate chaos so it can make us panic and give it what it wants without thinking. Which means we need to be prepared, calm, and organized so it doesn't have that chance.

Our weaknesses are mirror induced infighting and members who are highly susceptible to mirrors goading.

As for talking to them I think we should go with the spokesperson method again.

I mean identifying our more specific weaknesses. Like, what things does mirrors say that /gets/ to the people who are susceptible and /triggers/ the infighting.

And yeah, I do like the spokesperson method personally. It's been brought up that a lot of people aren't in the HOMEskype, but we could use the old chat as a place where people can discuss and argue over things /away/ from mirrors' and other people's sight, and then just have a small group of people who are good with words actually vocalizing what is decided on. Would keep things much smoother.

I apologize for the double post, but this thread's been quiet and I think it's because people are a little confused as to its purpose, so I wanted to explain it better:

Our goal is not to negotiate with mirrors. We know that's a bad idea. The goal of this thread is for when we don't have a viable method of fighting, and mirrors has run us into a corner again because quite frankly it's much more powerful than we know and we can't do a darn thing about it without a being of equal or greater power (aka Roivas). The point is to figure out how to talk to it in a way that we lose as absolutely little as possible, while gaining as much as we can, when we have no choice but to play by its rules. Because that time has happened before, and if we don't get Roivas back or come up with a viable method of war, it will happen again. And when we reach that point, giving it the silent treatment will just mean we're stuck in the mud again as everyone around us dies. Ignoring it is just not realistic.

"Negotiation" is a last resort. But it's one we should prepare for none-the-less.

Beyond that, this is just to talk about how to talk to things in general in a way that doesn't show our weaknesses. Because even when we're not negotiating, we're still gonna have to talk to things. That's just unavoidable. And we should know how to not look like a mess in front of it, or ruin all our carefully laid plans because we didn't prepare.
