Hi all, I helped make the slenderman movie, ask me anything!

Hey there, my name is Jayson (yes, THAT Jayson if you watched all the way through the credits) and I was the key grip on the Slenderman movie that was released this past Tuesday morning at midnight.

I'll be honest and say I had never even heard of Slenderman until my director came to us with the idea for a movie. After that i intentionally didn't watch what was already out there just so I had some fresh eyes going into the project. I'm just now getting into looking at some other Slenderman material, especially Marble Hornets since so many people are comparing us to them.

My question for you is, as your job as Key Grip, what were you responsible for?

And also, do you follow any Slender Man vlogs or blogs?

I did the practical special effects, the lighting, built some pieces of production equipment, set up the camera sometimes, and really just whatever was needed on set that someone wasn't already doing.

for the practical effects, i made the masks (my really cool looking latex one failed, something about the lack of breathing holes... :p), a pair of prosthetic tentacle clusters that strap to the actors arms and can articulate, the "squib" or blood hit for the gun shot at the end, and a couple other things.

I dont subscribe to any vlogs or anything, kinda just doing this casually. after being so engrossed in the mythos for 7 months, I kinda need a break haha.

So basically you were the can-do handyman guy? Because you're a very talented one.

Assuming that you were key grip for the Slendy-flick that I think you were, how did you manage the sudden appearances of Slendy? Such as when the kid is abducted, and taken into the room. When they stand in the corner, he pops out and does his thing. How did you do those sudden appearances? They were excellent.

mostly just camera tricks. if you pan across to full black, it's really easy to match the speed of that pan on a new clip with the actor in position. just simple editing from there on. that particular scene though, i believe he was added in after effects. every other scene, though, he is played by an actor.

You couldn't tell, it was outstanding.

and i just found out that the girl kidnapping scene was done completely practically aside from the glitches. unfortunately, i've been instructed to not release any more info than that

Hello, great movie. A bit hard to follow until the end personally and the screaming made it hard to enjoy portions.
