| Outside, John found the lighter and packet of cigerettes, he stuck one between his lips and with the lighter, lit it up, his free hand cupped around the flame. He savoured it. He started to recall something, a conversation with a... Colonel? A General? In a bar? They smoked and spoke about deep seated problems of society and what had to be done. | |

| Hannah gripped the handle of the knife tightly, taking a deep breath to steady herself. "I.. I'm sorry Louis." She found tears in her eyes yet again. - Spoiler:
She slowly lowered the blade to Louis' skin, stopping an inch before it. "This.. Louis, this is going to hurt. A lot."
With a stable hand and a cautious manner, she pressed the tip of the knife to Louis' skin. It resisted against the sharp attack before giving in. Crimson blood sprang to the surface as the knife cut into his flesh, looking like fresh rose petals on a field of snow. A long string of apologies fell from her lips, tears starting to escape her eyes.

| Louis screwed his eyes shut, tight, when he felt the knife stop close to his skin. He heard Hannah's apology, knowing it was too late to back out. - Spoiler:
Louis moaned, biting into his own arm to stop himself distracting Hannah more than he had too. The knife had sliced through his flesh with worrying ease. You were going to do similar to Hannah's neck, an internal voice reminded him.

Hannah's shoulders shook with silent sobs, watching a tear fall from the tip of her narrow chin to the table. She gently cut across until she felt the blade hit a small piece of metal, blood flowing from the small cut freely. "Can you.. can you feel that, Louis?"

Louis gasped sharply as the knife made contact with something alien sat over his spinal column, tears brimming in his eyes as his teeth drew droplets of blood from his arm, his incisors having pieced the skin. 'Yes,' he managed to croak. 'It's about two inches long, vertical.' He breathed heavily, biting down on his arm again before he screamed.

The tears came thick and fast down her face, blinding her. She reached up and wiped her eyes, smearing a little blood on her face, before cutting further along, running the knife along the edge of the chip. As soon as she could no longer feel it against the blade, the turned the knife a little. Hannah then withdrew the knife, placing it on the table and gently digging in the cut, retrieving the chip.
She placed the chip on the table, by the knife, before burying her face in her hands. | |

Louis clenched his hands into fists, manicured nails splitting the skin as he screamed into his arm. The chip had gotten used to its place: a little tissue had even formed on the device itself, which Hannah had just severed unwittingly. He clung onto conciousness, awe of the blood dripping slowly down his back as shadows ate hungrily at his vision.

| Hannah sobbed once, rubbing her face and returning her gaze to Louis' back. - Spoiler:
It looked savagely cut open, blood spilling onto the table. She turned into the kitchen, grabbing a towel and pressing it to the cut. The fabric soaked up the liquid eagerly, leaving the cut looking a lot less threatening. The edges of the slit were red and shiny, beginning to ooze blood again. Hannah's heart sunk when she realised she'd have to sew it shut.
When Luminen healed the cut, Hannah heaved a deep sigh of relief before breaking back into sobs. | |

| Hannah slowly zoned out, her eyes unfocussing until her hands were nothing more than dark red smears. She could feel the blood on her palms dry and tighten and sit thickly under her nails until Luminen removed it. While she had hunted animals for as long as she could remember, she knew she wouldn't be gutting anything for a long, long time to come. | |

| Louis gritted his teeth, sliding off the counter with the utter most care. His booted feet touched the floor, sending shivers of pain up his back as he spotted his borrowed shirt. He pulled it on as he hobbled awkwardly into the sitting room, buttoning as he went. He glanced back at Hannah, concern plain in his eyes. However, to keep her safe he'd have to leave, and soon.

| Hannah walked into her room and curled up on her bed. The sunrise outside painted her white walls a delicious mixture of oranges, purples and pinks, but she hardly noticed. Clutching her quilt to her face, she tried to fill the hollow cavern that seemed to now be her core with the delicate scent of sleep and vanilla perfume. | |
