The Slender Man (Movie)

Jesus Christ that was incredible. This is the only Slender Man movie that stayed completely true to the Mythos, and it did a superb job at it. At some points the acting was a bit shaky and underdone, but overall was spectacular.

The Slender Man looked astoundingly frightening as well; they hit the nail on the head with the proportions AND the tentacles.

The scenery was also a great touch, with the middle-of-nowhere landscape and ruins.

The effects with the distortion were also very well-put-together. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the distortion would sometimes echo, as if the sound could be heard outside of the footage.

I love the plot twist of harvesting children to the Slender Man in exchange for his son back, even though I had a hunch that was his motive from the get-go. The part I didn't see coming was the fact that in a past story within the movie, the children were harvested for body parts to rebuild a child. That, again, is another great plot twist.

The bit at the end was also wonderfully disturbing. The fact that she didn't see the Slender Man at first but her friends did was interesting, but what I really liked about it was that you could hear and see her mutilation. What was that that draped her face at the end? Her entrails? Flesh? And was that her ribcage being cracked open? Wonderful, absolutely wonderful.

Overall, I give this movie a solid 9/10, will watch again.

For starters, the beginning might not be so catchy to some as it's little difficult to follow who's filming and where. At first it might be confusing and even irritating that characters don't relieve much of themselves, but then again you're picking up little pieces of a puzzle. It isn't the most common way of storytelling in movies, where they usually want the watcher to identify themselves with the (main) character. Here you can't tell who's the main character and it's little obscure, but it allows you to think yourself and try harder to figure out what's going on.

The fact that they used actual children here - spectacular detail and simply thumping. It's awesome, because children in horror is always the creepiest shit.

I enjoyed the different viewpoints (Bennett, Hudson, Emma). They gave dimension to the story and bit by bit the pieces of the puzzle found their places (like the connection between the characters etc.).

The very end was just nicely done and truly quite intimidating. I gave me semi weird Slender man/Weeping Angel/The Ring etc. -feels.

Over all, the movie was very enjoyable on my opinion.

I have never been so glad to see an antagonist die. Or so horrified at the death of a protagonist. I mean, you actually caught a glimpse of Slendy ripping her open. And then killing all her friends. Slendy is a really nice guy.

Honestly, I wasn't exactly sad when Chase died. He was so moody throughout the whole thing, and was so condescending toward Emma. I'm just really pleased that the film stayed so true to the mythos, even to the point of Slendy's origins as a child murderer. I really loved it.

The beginning is very good. Chilling, forboding, minimalistic in the best way... the bitchy couple is sort of okay to sit through, though honestly I skipped through the funeral to some degree.
Once we get to the dad and the detective, though? Okay, this is good. Both very solid characters, it seems.
I'm sort of disappointed whenever we return to the bitchy couple, but let me say now that the visual effects are gooWHOOP SUDDENLY SLENDY AT THE SCHOOL OKAY YEAH GOOD.
Back to Dadman, we get some good pathos... and then he kidnaps a kid and oh God it's literally the most terrifying thing. Seeing him with a bottle of booze, crying, is pretty heavy; the accompanying ambient noise is good too. The second child-in-basement-scene, with the kid being named Danny, is a great one; the following scene of him chasing the attempted escapee is very unsettling, especially once we get into the creaking trees and the wind in the leaves. I will say it took me till now to realize what was meant by that note earlier that said "OLDER", meaning that Slendy is demanding an older child. This time's note was really hard to read, though. All I could make out was maybe a DANNY and a HAsomething.
Then... okay, was someone filming Dad through his window? I'm not sure here, but he leaves something in someone's mail and then... wait, it's the bitchy couple? Oh, I see, Jim Anders is their dead father. Anyway, they're doing the thing the Detective told them not to do and visiting Dad because you never do what you're told in horror.
How he knows them is, um... scary. His nonchalant behavior is really unsettling... as is the fact that he springs on them in a child's room.
The detective hugging Tammy makes me afraid for him already. Oh god, he has dogs too... ohai Skype.
Seeing what happened on Dad's side of the story when he grabs the Andersseses is scary, especially when she screams like crazy.
DING DONG DETECTIVE'S HERE AAAAAAAA. When they escape the kids take the camera because okay? Then wait what Dad had a gun too what who huh? Okay sure whatever he's chasing the bitchy duo.
Now we have shit falling over in the barn because AAAAAAAAAAA and the kids are out of the barn now and RUN AAAA SLENDY IS BEHIND THEM OR SOMETHING AAAA and back to more slowwwww moving with the detective, who I don't think got shot or maybe he did and now he's going to a scary building? Okay, scary times are good times AAAAA MOMENTARY SLENDS.
Oh hey Dad again BANG DEAD YES THANKS. No, Detective, it's not safe. There's Sloondymoon all over the place and stuff and he gives Chase a big hug and wait did her camera just move on the ground oh shit question mark.
I'm expecting Slendy to get Emma and Detective Guy too, so this is sort of tense but also sort of I'm waiting.

So overall, great movie. The ending was pretty funny, and I hope it was supposed to be funny.
