Omega Accidentallies the Entire Mythos Empty
PostSubject: Omega Accidentallies the Entire Mythos   Omega Accidentallies the Entire Mythos EmptyWed Mar 02, 2011 8:49 pm

For those of you who aren't obsessively stalking me (and why ever would you not be?) a while ago, I had some really annoying computer problems (God damn Vista....). I was able to get my computer to work again, but I lost several files in the process. Amongst those files was my bookmarks folder, which contained the bookmarks to all the Slenderblogs I was following. Which was a lot of Slenderblogs.
That happened in early February, and I never got around to rebuilding that folder like I should have. As a result, I started to fall really far behind in the blogs. My increasing obsolescence was only compounded by the fact that, honestly, I've never been a big follower of the 4th gen blogs. A few I'd been reading, but the majority failed to catch my attention. And then, because of this, I started losing track of the ones I had been following.... Well, you see how messy this is getting.

HOWEVER!

Recently I have been filled with a surprising amount of MOTIVATION and ENERGY. Harnessing that power, I spent the my free time during the day catching up with all the major blogs, plus a few of my personal favorites. Yet even that was not a grand enough accomplishment for me.

Music please.

So I have decided to accidentally the Mythos.
ALL OF IT.
AT LEAST, ALL THAT IS ON BLOGGER.
BECAUSE I HAVE A GODAWFUL INTERNET CONNECTION, AND THAT'S THE HOSTING SITE WHICH LOADS THE FASTEST.
ANYWAYS.

Using the wonderful list which has been provided by Chase, I intend to read, or catch up with, every single blog that I have either missed or ignored, starting from the top, and working my way to the bottom.

And since such a heroic task should not be done quietly, I will be posting updates on my quest here, so that you may sing songs of my glory in the halls of the greats kings of the North.

Is this task impossible? Probably. Will I fail miserably before reaching the G's? Most likely. Will I be able to find the free time in my schedule necessary to do this? Hell no. BUT THAT WILL NOT STOP ME.

Anyways, my intent is to try and read through as many of these things as I can before I finally want to scream and never read about a suit for the rest of my life. I'll be posting my reactions to blogs here, so you can laugh at my torment. Especially when I reach InvalidLaughter's.... *Shudders*

For some context, here's a pic of what blogs I have already caught up with:
Spoiler:

Expect the first post soon-ish.

Key
Blogs which I had already read/been fully caught up with before writing about them here will be in italics.
Blogs which are not on Chase's list, which I found through comments or other such methods, will be in bold.

Does there have to be a rhyme and reason?

Also, what happens when a blog we've finished updates?

Well, I was going from A down, because Chase's list is alphabetical.

I won't let them update after I've fini-
I mean.
Um.

I plan to keep up with as many as I can. It's almost necessary to understand what's going on in the other blogs these days....

But I've already read some which.... Yeah, I don't think I'm going to keep following them, even if they update later.

So just make lists on your blog that go:

Seeking Truth-BLARGHTHISISAMAZING
No Escape From Reality-BLARGHTHISISAWFUL
[Insert mediocre blog]-BLARGHTHISISMEDIOCRE

And list every single blog. Razz

But good luck. There are a ton of blogs. Be sure to tell us which you think are good!

I've also been planning on doing this FOR SCIENCE because I want to have summaries on my blog. So I'm probably going to be reading at a slower pace, but more deliberately and with more in-depth reactions.

So I guess I'm not going to be racing you. But I still plan on reading all the blogs.

The things we do FOR SCIENCE.....

Time for the first batch of blog.

.

Yes. The blog is called .

I am very happy to see that we're starting out with Sturgeon's Law in full effect. I wouldn't want it any other way. Three posts long, poorly written, absolutely no pacing or anything. Slendershit happens without any rhyme or reason. Also, the author doesn't seem to understand the shift key. An excellent start to this whole deal.

0harts
to GIVE (http://0harts2give.blogspot.com/)

They're not giving any harts? What?! I wanted harts! How dare this blog deny me my harts!

This blog is the opposite of all I experienced in ".". It has writing, characters, but above all else it has tone and atmosphere. This isn't one of those "OMG HE'S FOLLOWING ME" blogs; Slendy hasn't even made a real appearance yet. But it's still capable of conveying the necessary tone and atmosphere. Even the design of the blog adds to the overall feel, something which few others take advantage of. The horror hasn't yet started in the story; this is all still build up. But it's excellent build up. There was a long gap between the last two entries, so I hope it isn't dying out, as I really enjoyed it. This is a blog that I plan to keep following, even after I'm done with this.

SnowDrop
Song (http://tryingtosavewho.blogspot.com/)

Formerly a Fool's Ramblings.

Argh, can you people just stop changing the names of these things.... It gets so confusing....
I followed this for a while, then gradually let it drop. Had to read all of the January and February posts to catch up. My impression now is the same as it was before: Writing is average, but the plot feels disjointed.
The posts don't much of a sense of connectivity between them. It's not that they're scattered or random, there is a followable progression of events, it's just that.... Stuff seems to happen. There's less "Plot point A leads to Plot point B, which causes Plot point C", and more "Plot point A happens, then Plot point B happens, then Plot point C, etc."
And is there a reason for the thematic naming of posts? I love symbolism, but this doesn't look like symbolism. It looks like references, which is something completely different, and shout outs to Vocaloids is a huge mood killer in horror (I don't care how dark the song is).
And one last thing: DAMMIT MODERN PSYCHIATRIC WARDS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY. Thank you.

A Study in Purple (http://studyinpurple.blogspot.com/)

Bright Asylum (http://brightasylum.blogspot.com/)

Both these blogs are part of the same story. I was following them both before my computer mishap, so it was only the February stuff I had to go back over. And.... Well, I didn't miss much. These blogs move at a much slower pace than the majority of other Slenderblogs. They started in August of 2010, and Slendy has yet to move in from the peripheral. He's made some appearances, but has yet to actually interact with the plot. A lot of this is because the blogs post very rarely, which makes it easy to follow, even if plot points are rare.
EDIT: The story is beginning to into more Slender territory, and is improving even more. Still extremely slow paced, but still very good.

Well, that wasn't so bad. Though I've barely even scratched the surface here....

Yeah, but I've already read Breaker and Serendipity. I'm not rereading things, just everything I missed.

But keep the flame proof outfit handy. Even if I don't need to read them entirely, I'm still at least going to skim over the blogs I've already read, so that I can post something about them here. Wink

Oh god, skip mine until I do my TL;DR.... it's too long and there are things that my need to be explained a bit further.

that and I have to add in Michi's blog... But I guess it might not be as confusing as most of the core theory blogs...

)
)
-I kinda liked this blog. The design evoked a melancholy, slightly regretful feel, most emphasized by the picture in the title. Don't know if that's what the author was going for, but I felt the effect was a good one. Writing was decent, but never got to see much of it, as the blog stopped updating after a few posts.

A Rainbow Life (http://therearemanycolorstoarainbow.blogspot.com/)
-Another blog which I enjoyed, yet which ended before it had really started. The tone was excellent; a peppy, upbeat girl blogging with rainbows and things everywhere.... But if you looked carefully, you saw something darker underneath, and cracks in the cheerful mood. Was really sad when I realized it wasn't updating anymore, as I'd liked to have seen more of it.

A Really Bad Joke (http://worstjestever.blogspot.com/)
.

A Wand and a Prayer (http://awandandaprayer.blogspot.com/

EDIT: Weird. It looks like over half my post was just eaten, because there was a lot of content in here, and now there's just nothing....
Well, brief recap (because I'm not rewriting an entire post I made months ago): A Hint of Serendipity is good, has good character growth, some problems early on and a few plot threads are just abandoned, but all in all was a perfect ending for the Core Theory narrative, and works as a great lead in to Last Refuge of a Dangerous Man. A Lost One has been deleted; enjoyed it, but it didn't last long. A New Blog That's Not Mine was amazing and Aaron is the greatest person to have ever existed; my favorite troll blog. A Really Bad Joke is great, Maduin is an amazingly crazy/funny guy, while still balancing the horror aspects; bit slow on the updates at times, though. A Storytelling of Rooks didn't last long and was forgettable. In my original post, I said that A Wand and A Prayer was slightly above average, but had potential; since then, it has started to live up to that potential, and become an excellent blog.

Part 3.

Always Look Back (http://watcheswithoutseeing.blogspot.com/)
-Another forgettable blog. Not much going on here. Only lasted a few posts, and nothing happened in those posts.
-Found the name Samael amusing, if only because that's a name I've used for a character I wrote in a non-Slender related story.

Anomalous Data (
http://anomalousdata.blogspot.com/)
-One of the original Sages blog, and the only which focused entirely on its research goal. Didn't get distracted with metaphysical nature of things, or shift into narrative. Stayed on topic the whole way through. I'll let you decide if that was good or not.
-Ended somewhat suddenly. There was a little build up, so it's not as though it came out of nowhere, but I didn't get a real sense of ending in that last post. It took me a while before I moved it into my "Finished" category when I first read it, as I kept assuming it was going to start updating again.
-I did like it, even if it never became as big as the other Sages blogs which have been out there. And I've always been a big fan of Redlight being Jay.

Anonymous Here (http://anonymoushiding.blogspot.com/)
-Another "Generic Spunky Teen Blog". I'm going to have to make an acronym for this. A GST blog. Like other GST blogs, this one has it's own special feature which lets it claim to be unique: The main character is a Wiccan. And like other GST blogs, that unique feature is mentioned very rarely, only when the author feels like he needs it. When the Wicca aspect is mentioned, the author often starts taking it a bit too far, and teeters on the edge of Sue-ness.
-I had a few pet peeves about it, which I'm not going to mention, because honestly, it's just not very good. The blog lacks story structure, which I'm starting to worry is a widespread problem. Stuff happens, and there's no connection or conflict between events. Plot threads which looked important are quietly dropped off, as though the author forgot about them. And he uses elispes way too much.
-I will give the author props for a few things: It looks like he may have actually killed off a character (Susan). Maybe she's mentioned being alive in another blog which I haven't read, or maybe he's planning to bring her back as a proxy, but from what I read, it looks like she's gone. I wish more blogs would have the guts to get rid of important characters; it adds a lot to the drama. Also, I love ALDER, but that's just because it's my opinion that CAPS LOCK CRUISE CONTROL is the highest form of comedy.

Another Slendiferous Life (http://slendiferous.blogspot.com/)
-From what I read, I'm under the impression that I'll also need to read another blog to understand what's going on. Even taking that into consideration..... This is another bland one. Not much happens in it. Admittedly, it is only 10 posts long, so I can't expect too much to have occurred yet. But it just didn't leave an impact on me.
-Bonus points for being set in Texas (eventually). That makes four Slenderblogs I know of (not counting Slenderia) which are set in the greatest state ever.

Anthroagast (http://anthroagast.blogspot.com/)
-Yeah, not going to lie, I LOVED this blog when it was active. It spoke strongly to the pretentious English Major inside me. I felt that it was very underrated by the community.
-Gave me a House of Leaves vibe.
-Took me some time to get into; I couldn't figure out whether the artistic language and purple prose was an intentional stylistic choice, or just bad writing. The post "THIS is Anthroagast" was when I realized it was the former, and started treating the story not like a book you pick up to read just for the story, but as something you need to think about and analyze. And I love stories like that.
-But, it appears to be on indefinite hiatus, so I'll never be able to fully unravel its mysteries. Which makes me most saddened.

Omega, didn't you mention once that you had an in-character blog? You seem to be quite fond of "A New Blog That's Not Mine...." I would be convinced that it's your blog if it weren't for the fact that you sort of got the protagonist's name wrong (I believe that it's "Aaron," not "Andy").

Anyway, will you be adding your impressions of these to the Slenderblog vs. Slanderblog thread at all?

I DON'T NEED TO BE THE AUTHOR TO REALIZE WHAT A WORK OF ART IT IS.

I probably should do that. I will be getting onto that later.

EDIT: Also, once I reach my blog on that list, I'll likely be slamming it as hard as the others I've gone over. Because when I look at some of the posts I made, my reaction is this: "WHAT IDIOT WROTE THIS SHIT?" Mad

PostSubject: Re: Omega Accidentallies the Entire Mythos   Omega Accidentallies the Entire Mythos EmptyThu Mar 10, 2011 2:29 pm

Just three for now. I've been busy lately.

Also, I see that Chase has changed the format so that inactive blogs are all listed at the bottom. Should I keep doing them alphabetically, or just go down like usual Y/N?

Art School For Amateurs (http://artschoolforamateurs.blogspot.com/)
-Just starting out. There's been a single disappearance, and the operator symbol, but no Slender.
-Establishing posts consist of the author providing aspiring artists advice on art school. Writing is solid thus far; while I can't yet make any judgments on how it will turn out as a Slender series, this is one I'm optimistic about.

Believe What You See (http://thedarknesscrawls.blogspot.com/)
-Another which I used to follow, so there wasn't as much to catch up with.
-Initial plot premise is: Main character (Anthony) wants to find Slender Man. This doesn't turn out very well for him.
-The writing quality is all over the place. I would read a post that sounds like something out of middle school, complete with spelling and grammatical mistakes, and then I'd read something amazing. If the author could make it more consistently the latter, it would be great; since I can see that he's has talent, the problem seems to lie in editing and revising.
-The author also has a problem with trying to be two things at once with the story: Is he going for a genre savvy runner blog, or a mysterious horror one? This actually could have been a very good horror story, if the author had just not included Anthony's prior knowledge of Slender Man. It would have added a lot more creepiness to some scenes which were otherwise made tame by Anthony's knowledge of what was going on. Also, some of his actions seem completely nonsensical if you consider that he should know what he's going through. At one point, a friend of his goes missing, and then later comes back, obviously due to Slender related causes. Yet Anthony, for some unfathomable reason, refuses to give even the slightest hint to his friend that he too is aware of Slender Man, except to build up horror which should be completely unnecessary and idiotic in a genre savvy story. On the other hand, I'm not saying, "How dare he write a story with a character who knows about Slender Man, he should stop at once and write a good old fashioned horror thing!" Just that if he is going to write a prior knowledge character, fridge logic actions like the above incident with the friend should be left out. If a trait of your character is genre savviness, don't make them suddenly genre blind without good reason.

-Not much to say here. Only three posts long, little lasting impression from them. Only thing I really got from it was "Guyz I'm being followed by something that's like Slender Man but isn't Slender Man!"

I'm going to post an excerpt from my notes on the last blog I read. Because I don't know what just happened, but it was fucking hilarious. I'll get around to writing a full post once I read more blogs.

"-Why do the proxies always let the people they capture keep their laptops? And then
lock them in places with wifi?
-THIS SHIT IS THE TRUTH.
-GOD DAMMIT SLENDY IS TALKING AGAIN.
-He taunts Slendy with “One Week”. This is just awesome.
-The fuck, people are talking about the stuff I said on my blog in the comments? 0_0
-Wait, Yggdrasil? As in the tree, not the person? WHEN THE FUCK DID THIS HAPPEN?
-OH GOD TIME TRAVEL I DON’T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE.
-Wait, there is no time travel? Who’s Kelly? The Intruder is posting on this blog? MY
GOD IT’S WORSE THAN EVERYMANSHYBRAD!
-Wait, there are TWO FUCKING OTHER BLOGS I NEED TO READ TO KEEP UP WITH THIS? FUCK!
-Time travel is pretty cool stuff I guess.
-God damn hexadecimal! AND FUCKING BINARY!
-I need a fucking flowchart. I think I know what’s going on, but I’m not
completely sure. Also would help to know how much happened in comments outside
of the place."

EDIT: Also, wtf is up with the formatting of this topic?

EDIT2: Good lord, I have a foul mouth in this post. That always seems to happen whenever I encounter something which makes my brain leak slightly. There's a good chance I could have avoided all of this mind screwery had I just known there were three blogs from the start.... Or maybe not.
