equipment used

I have seen alot of different equipment used, besides the obvious camera, I have seen stuff like Cell phones used. What about props? most of what i see is people in costumes, i wonder has anyone used anything else? what are some interesting things that you see? or have used?

When you say props, what do you mean?

Well for instance, books, PDAs, uh, anything that's used to help tell the story. I am wondering how people get creative Ideas. For instance, i know a few scenes that use a mannequin as a prop for Slender Man.

If you watch TribeTwelve, he uses quite a few "props."

Yea i noticed tribe twelve used quit a few props. I am trying to focus the conversation on things that are used during a story, and wondering how people come up with it, I take it you have watched the Caughtnotsleeping video, how did he figure out how to used the doll house, whats the story behind the liquid?

In essensce im trying to start a conversation about what people use, or ideas they may have to tell a story for an ARG.

Yes, i am really considering it. Since i have never done one before, i just wanted nail down, things i may need, may want to use. Pretty much doing research before i head down that path.

Props are only useful if they come into the story directly. Otherwise they're entirely forgettable. Cell phones aren't props so much as common things.

Also, if you do want to use 'props', try not to high-jack other vlog's idea's.

Agreed, but as far as recording goes. Any software suggestions for modifying the video when required?

Sony Vegas from what I've heard is the best and the easiest to use.

You have to pay for it, but it's worth it.

To me, CaughtNotSleeping has probably used to most amount of "props" so far, but considering it's an ARG I think they'd need some of the props for the overall story, such as the Fairy Jars that are actually useful plot-wise.

It depends on what you do with the story and what you need to accompany parts of it. And as Serena said, don't try to hijack other ideas. This could really apply to things like the Operator Symbol and others, Slenderdolls or dolls in general, etc.

Just try to avoid something stupid like using Google Maps' Street View to find a person..

thanks for the advice i really appreciate it. What would you think about audience participation? One idea i have is allowing the audience to choose how the next video will go. so far ive got a rough idea down. I just haven't gotten my equipment yet.
