| Okay, I've noticed this after watching all of the various vlog series, and one thing that sticks out about Marble Hornets is how they call their Slender Man "the Operator". There has been speculation about whether this creature is the Slender Man or a different paranormal creature entirley. I'd like to open this topic up to discuss differences and opinions on the creatures. Here is one especially strange I've noticed.
One of the Stranger differences that I've noticed is the Operator's posture. I'm not sure if this is on purpose or if it is just an effect of the way the creators built the costume. Most notably in entries 12,14,and 51, but in others as well, the Operator is seen in weird positions. In entry 12, the Operator is seen standing in the background with his head tilted at an odd angle and with what appears to be a bow-legged stance. In entry 14, after he enters through the doorway, he puts his arms at his side in a strange way and walks very awkwardly. In entry 52, at about 5:17, the Operator appears in the background, again with his arms held strangely and his legs sort of spread apart. I only bring this up because it seems rather inconsistent how he carries himself, and I haven't noticed this in any other vlogs.
What are your opinions?

| It seems to me that the Slender Man gradually evolved into the Operator, but retained the name. Look at how many blogs/vlogs are influenced by Marble Hornets, and know that I'm not lying.
Troy and Joseph can say that the Operator is a different paranormal entity all they like, but there's no denying that what they've done has shaped the Mythos into what it is today.
EDIT: However, we still don't know much about the Operator, so Troy and Joseph could pull something on us that turns our image of their Slender Man on it's head. I think that's how the phrase goes.

| I think they're more or less the same entity. It's like with vampires, everybody has their own take on it.
If anybody has seen the film 'Near Dark', it's clearly a vampire film, although the word 'vampire' is never used.
And as Malus says, whatever the intent of the MH creators, 'the Operator' has become the template for everybody else's 'Slenderman'.

| I also believe no one has been able to emulate MH's frightening form of The Operator. TribeTwelve and EverymanHYBRID evolved their own forms of slenderman, which actually act very different once you pay attention. | |

Sorry to mention vampires (ick) again, but I think the 1922 'Nosferatu' is still the most frightening depiction of a vampire.

| I think in other vlogs, the term "the operator" doesn't necessarily mean Slendy himself, but in MH it seems quite apparent that it is. | |

| i always saw it as each vlog had their own slenderman "form" (if thats the proper word for it) most stories and incarnations have had a different depiction of slenderman as well as separate powers. i always thought that The Operator was just the MH version | |

What are your opinions? Basically the same entity. He's just called the Operator in MH because he's the operator of the whole thing.

| I think another possibility here is that marble hornets didn't want to use the term Slender Man AT ALL in their series in order to; A) refrain from giving the series a kind of "self aware" sort of tone, B) Not upset the people who are so obsessed with the mythos (Slendernation ) for when they do their own thing (proxies, totheark, etc), and C) To make it less researched and more "on the run" feeling, like Jay wouldn't know what to search for on the internet as he Hotel-Hops when referring to "that faceless thing in a suit". I think it's perfect, but I also am about ninety-four percent certain that it is Slendy under a pseudonym. | |

| Back in the SomethingAwful Forum, when Troy posted, he said 'This Slenderman reminded me' or something like that.
In other words, I think he was hinting that The Operator is the real entity, and influenced the creation of Slenderman, the fake entity.
If that makes any sense.

| I think the differences in posture and ability comes from the different methods of production for the vlogs. Whether they're using a mannequin, an actor or some sort of animation / special effects, those things will affect was sort of abilities they will be able to show Slender Man using. As for why MH called their Slender Man the Operator, who knows. I remember there was a video on YouTube of the Marble Hornets crew answering questions at a convention, someone asked about this and they gave a sort of non-answer. So whatever reason MH have they want to keep it to themselves. I don't remember if it was in part one or two, but here are the videos I was talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRHVplrAl2Ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENYqrxopLvk | |
