Honest question here... (may offend some people)

Why is it that people are allowed to believe in God, but whenever someone believes in Slenderman we bash them and consider them to be insane?

I'd like to know the difference here.

Well, here's the thing. 

God, or the concept of a God or many Gods, is a religion. Many people put their faith into their religion, sometimes to a fault. However, it is something very woven into society, culture, and politics. It's vast and far reaching throughout people that it has become both mundane in society, as well as the cause of such atrocities as war. 

Believing in Slenderman is...fine, I guess. The reason we don't take kindly to it here is because it leads to a lot of drama and issues. Most, I'm not saying all but most, of the people on here who claim to have seen Slenderman or believe in his real existence will get very annoying and/or too vocal about it, and it puts a lot of people off. Much in the same way that cramming religion down my throat makes me want to hurt people. 

With God, there is no beginning. What I mean by that is we don't know where he came from. Slenderman, we do now where he came from. From the mind of Victor Surge, in several pictures posted on Something Awful Forums. He has a beginning, and that beginning is in fiction. I, for one, know for a fact that he does not exist anywhere outside of the vlogs, blogs, and our own imagination. 

In order to keep the forum from devolving into the verse equivalent of a Holy War, we keep these things in check. Which is why, stated in the rules, this is a FAN FORUM, not somewhere for someone to swamp us with "OMG I SAW HIM, HELP ME, I'M GONNA GET PROXY'D!!" posts. It's not cool, like at all. 

Anything I said not make sense, or any other questions? I'd be more than happy to answer.

Lol, much obliged! I've plenty more to say on the subject, but it'd be far too long to post. If you ever find yourself, and this means anyone, wanting a good debate or just to listen, I'm more than happy to oblige!

I agree with 99% of what doc said ( there are some details that i don´t agree with him which i don´t adress here, because i have the feeling that it would cause a lot of arguing and i wanna keep that out of here too ).

If there is any arguing, this is the place for it! I mean, if it gets out of hand, I'll put an end to it straight away, but come on, out with it!

I have yet to come across any such paintings, carvings, or documents that would prove the legitimacy of people seeing The Slender Man. If someone could provide me with such, I'd be more than happy to look it over and give an honest opinion on it.

There is no credible source for these, unfortunately. Therefore, they cannot be authenticated. It wouldn't be that hard to photoshop any of those pictures, I could do it given the time and determination.

AHA, but the thing is, I've seen the original picture! Who would make that, unlsee maybe they were depicting, a squid maybe? Or are they talking of a myth that's been around longer than the Something Awful Forums posts?

Can you perhaps link us to the museum that you saw the original picture in? I can't imagine something so old and priceless would be in anything but. I don't mean to discredit you, and I am not calling you a liar. However 'I totes saw it' is pretty much meaningless because there isn't much proof other then your word on the subject. Once again, not calling you a liar or trying to be offensive, I would just want more proof.

I wanna thank everyone who's posted here for being civil about the topic, and that's a very good explanation Doc, I would've pretty much posted your third paragraph if this topic wasn't responded to. Usually whenever I see people on the internet talking about religion or God there's often some sort of atheist rant involved and I get tired a lot of seeing them. People have their beliefs which I'm not usually vocally against, which may be against my own, and even though this is the flamewars area of the forum I appreciate no disrespectful opinions being expressed in this topic.

I honestly am glad I'm not getting hated on right now.

I firmly believe the MYTH is old, but I don't think he is real.

I honestly believe the mention of faceless beings has shown up in folklore before, but it's almost impossible to find any plausible information with all of this Slenderman stuff floating around.
