Anyway, I was saying in the chat that an ARG could totally use this to encode some cryptic messages or someshit in the audio of a bout of bad distortion. I'm sure there's at least one person out there who runs these things through spectrograms, checking for clues, right? Well, there'd better be, because we are doing this up.

Did anyone follow the Nine Inch Nails ARG for their album Year Zero? Quite possibly the most impressive ARG I've ever seen. They did a lot of spectrograph stuff, I don't recall anyone every attempting it in our little corner of the internet though. That'd be neat.

Didn't they put pictures of their cats in one of their songs?

I never liked the NIN ARG because it was a false lead in totality. That aside, you bet your ass they used this technique, and many times. Several musicians have done this outside of ARGS as well.

I wish I knew how to do those, I've frequently seen the results of it, but I envy so much those with the capability of doing it. I read into it a little more once and I'm just not technologically experienced enough to get it. It flew right over my head.

I'm thinkin' I could do it... over the course of a week or so. Unfortunately there are no ARGs in need of my help.

You could always test it out on some random video for starters.

True, we never did receive the promised second half. I'm sure it'd be difficult to appreciate unless you were a fan of the band already, which I was/am. I don't think I've ever been so consumed by an ARG quite like that one too (although I suppose Slenderman as a whole has accomplished this). I thought they did an excellent job of setting up the alternate reality and making it believable.

You're right, I totally shat bricks.
But I should expect such things from Aphex Twin.

Actually, Aphex Twin is how I found out about all this. So I was expecting it this time, but the first time I saw it I definitely shat. Bricks.

Yeah, I figured why. Lemme guess. Cracked.com article?

But yeah, that'd be cool. Encode the Operator Symbol or Slendy into an audio distortion track.
