| Just curious, because Christmas is coming, and I may be able to hopefully get some extra cash and I'd like to upgrade to something decent. | |

| I have a horrible consumer grade camera, a real downgrade from what used to use at film school. What are you looking to upgrade from? I'd say getting something HD quality but you need to be willing to drop a cupple hundren dollars plus maybe buy an additional hard drive to hold the footage. The camera I'm looking at I want is around 500 right now | |

| I mainly want something that can see a little better than my iPod can in the dark, and I'd like one that picks up sound rather well. | |

| I guess any upgrade would be better then that. Night vision, I dont know much about that. I am experimenting with some low light and color filters in editing to make something look like it has night vision but other then that, idk | |

| I use a Casio Exilim with HD video, 14.1 MP. It was about 150 when I bought it and I don't regret it. It has served me well for my vlog benthedreamcatcher | |

| Bell+Howell DNV900HD. It's pretty cool, got it for $160, and it has infrared night vision, and 1080p HD recording. The only downside is the purple tint that comes in when infrared bleeds into the regular spectrum. | |

| I used to use a cannon vixia HV 30 before it broke. But now I am simply useing it as a prop for the very last scene in the short Im still writing.
If you trying to get a hand held camera and can not afford a high end professional camera and you have no problem using tape then this is a good camera to pick.

| I use a Samsung ES75 with a shoulder mounted tripod. It works like a charm. | |

| A 'Flip' camera, and a friend's phone. The Flip camera is pretty slow while it uploads to the computer, but the quality is relatively good. | |

| Black Friday is tomorrow. Wish me luck here.
After looking at some special selection, I'm going with a canon brand. I'll update when I get you the product name.

EMH uses a flip and their videos look pretty damn good. I want one really bad.

| I have a Sony Handycam DCR DVD-610, and I think it turns out pretty good. I think compressing the file in the editing stage may aversely affect my picture quality, but overall I am very happy with it. | |

| Starting on my Christmas video, I will be using a Canon powershot. It has zoom, 1080p, auto focus, wonderful visual and audio playback. | |

| I ended up with a Bloggie, and it has some pretty good anti-blur, fast-motion-sport-styled features. HD quality, decent load time, not the best but pretty good for the money. Can't wait to start on my series. | |

| For Our series, Kemp and I have both upgraded. He may want to tell you about his own cameras so I will just discuss mine. I have a Casio Exilim point and shoot 10.1 MP that I started with. It's nice, but I wanted a camcorder. I shopped around and ended up buying a slightly used JVC EVIRIO that I am pretty impressed with. It does well in low light, but the video quality is pretty average. It's audio quality is great though. Records in 720p and the only complaint I really have is that the format is in .MOD. Its a pain sometimes, but I use Sony Vegas Platinum 10 Pro, which is compatible.
What Editing program do you use? I have tried several and Sony Vegas is by far my favorite.
I am actually kind of fond of the bloggie. It is not as aesthetically pleasing and professional looking as a camcorder, but it's quality is quite impressive.

| This Powershot SX150 tears through batteries like tank treads flatten a vehicle. I dont know if its meant to be that way or if I have a malfunction but its unbearable! | |

I'm going to be using Final Cut Express HD on my MacBook and Sony Vegas on my Toshiba. I'm not as learned on SV as I am on FC, is there a really easy way to get the visual tearing / slendistortion?

Absolutely! In your top left most box (Where your imported media will be) there are tabs. Simply find the tab that says Video Effects and there is a huge range of distortion and visual trickery at hand. You can even set distortion to build and subside at certain points in the video.
