Subject: Rake / "BoB"? Tue Jan 08, 2013 9:24 am
So I hear a ton of things regarding the rake all the time. The Rake isn't actually an "Internet" generated ... I don't think. I could be wrong - but I remember being a real little kid and the Rake popped up as a character in a few books, with similar appearances as to how we all know and possibly love or don't love him.
Any thoughts on this and the "Origin" of the Rake?
Another topic, who is this "BOB"? I've seen a lot of pictures of like... the Rake but with his limbs sliced off - and I don't understand this. I've gone through a ton of images, but can't seem to type up "Bob".
I would like to add this thing to my Mythos list of things I've studied.

As far as I know, the Rake originated from the internet as a creepypasta. I could be wrong as well. I'm interested in which children's books you're referring to; which ones? If you did see him pop up in books, the Rake was probably just inspired by those characters.
As for BOB, I haven't really looked into him yet. I'll look into him today.
It seems like the Rake and BOB are extremely similar in appearance, but are definitely two different entities.
EDIT: I just read the story of BOB. (I liked it, but not a whole lot.) BOB definitely has a LOT of similarities to the Rake. It's almost as if BOB is the Rake's long-lost amputee brother.

BAHAHA! Oh god, that's a good one. But where did you find that? Because when I make creepy-pasta search attempts, I just.. FAIL!
Uhm, it wasn't a children's book... It was a Dean Koontz or Stephen King book. Or some popular author that writes horror. I had gotten it from my Mum who read a TON of that stuff when she was still... "Around".
I really wish I still had those books now too because now I want to try and look through them. >.>

Oh! That makes more sense. It's just that you said you had read it when you were a young child, so I had assumed it was a book for younger kids.

Oh, yeah -sorry. I read big books as a child. Was one of those kinds of people. a Bookworm from the first time I smelled fresh parchment. Only books we had in the house were those and classics. But does that ring a bell? If you have read any of those books?

Oh, fresh parchment.
I actually have started reading a Stephen King book a while back but never finished it, The Running Man. I started reading it for school, but had to return it to the school's library. I also started reading a Dean Koontz book a while back but never finished it either.
I have read a lot of classic books though, or at least personal classics, mostly children's books. I didn't read as much as I should of as a child, but now at age 16 I'm picking up on reading a bit.
I'm more of a short story reader, where I read many short stories frequently rather than read a book, but I also read books along with that.

That's what happens when you read so much creepypasta, isn't it? XD Turn from a "I can read harry potter in two weeks" to:
"Russian Sleep Experiment" or.... "Jeff the Killer" again?... hm...
Haha, I suppose so. It's all about preference. I personally can't stand reading large books like that sometimes, mostly because those kinds of stories don't interest me. I like reasonably-sized stories, like medium-sized chapter books, comics, mangas, and creepypastas. For example:
I agree. I'll take a read at those later when I have time to kill. Gotta hop off soon anyhow. But regardless, it doesn't sound TOO interesting but I'll read them anyway.
Also, on another note, Steven, I am a HUGE manga fan as well.

Throwing my lot in with the original question. I know this will probably inspire groans and eye-rollings, but The Rake was created in a thread on /b/. It was called "hey /b/, lets make a new monster!", which is quite an original title I'm sure you'll agree.
He started out as a very Slendy like creature, 8 foot tall and walking with a hunch. Had 3 eyes too, and mouths in the palms of his hands. Eventually he evolved into the thing we have now, though the claws came afterward. That creepypasta was the first use of him, but it wasn't his origin.

The original stories are always the best ones over the sequels/fan-written ones, whether or not they were good or not.
Sequels are never as good as the originals. -_-"

Funnily enough I'm like that too. If I read fiction it's usually short, and if I read non-fiction it's usually longer. Just recently read a book called Quiet: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can't Stop Talking. Very interesting read if you like psychology. ^w^
On the subject of the Rake - as far as I know he was a Creepypasta first, and got involved with the Slenderverse when EMH used him second. Then he got ported to the Fearverse along with Slendy later on. I could be wrong though; I'm no Rakeologist or anything.
I've never heard of this BOB character but the way you described him makes him sound like the Rake and one of those Straightjacket enemies from Silent Hill had some sort of weird baby.

You know, that's exactly what I was thinking, and who knows. Some people say /b/ I've now heard /x/ did it. I also just heard from a friend that the IDEA spawned from a book. And I also heard that it was just an original story and someone posted it on 4chan.
